About Colin Paul – A Lifetime of Rock ’n’ Roll
Over 40 Years of Rock ’n’ Roll, Music and Memories
From the clubs of Manchester to the stages of Memphis, Tennessee, Colin Paul has spent more than four decades entertaining audiences with his passion for the music of the 1950s and 1960s.
An established British rock ’n’ roll singer, recording artist and entertainer, Colin is best known for his powerful interpretations of Elvis Presley, Billy Fury and the legendary performers who shaped the golden age of popular music.
Whether appearing as a solo artist or fronting his celebrated band, Colin Paul & The Persuaders, his performances combine authentic rock ’n’ roll, memorable vocals, infectious energy and a genuine love for the music.
Where It All Began
Colin was born in Brisbane, Australia, on 8 June 1962, before returning to Britain with his family while still a baby.
Growing up in Sale, Greater Manchester, he developed a fascination with rock ’n’ roll, inspired particularly by his father's love of the music.
Elvis Presley became an early influence, followed by artists including Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison and Britain's own Billy Fury.
What began as a childhood passion gradually became a lifelong musical journey.
In 1982, Colin made his first significant appearance on stage at a local Manchester pub. His natural enthusiasm and distinctive voice soon attracted attention, leading to regular performances at venues throughout the North West.
The Stormbeats – The First Chapter
In 1988, Colin formed his first rock ’n’ roll band, initially called Raw Deal, which subsequently became The Stormbeats.
The group quickly established a loyal following across Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire, performing the classic hits of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Their energetic performances earned them appearances alongside established entertainers and invitations to specialist rock ’n’ roll events.
A particularly memorable chapter was their involvement with the Billy Fury tribute weekends, where Colin developed friendships with members of Billy's family and became a regular performer.
The Stormbeats continued until June 1995, laying the foundations for the next stage of Colin's career.
Colin Paul & The Persuaders – Taking Rock ’n’ Roll Further
In the summer of 1995, Colin joined forces with a group of talented musicians to form Colin Paul & The Persuaders.
Their first performance took place on 12 August 1995 in Sale, Cheshire.
The band soon became an established attraction on the British rock ’n’ roll circuit, appearing at clubs, theatres, festivals, dance halls and special events throughout the UK.
With a repertoire celebrating the great music of the 1950s and early 1960s, The Persuaders built a reputation for energetic live shows, accomplished musicianship and an authentic sound that kept audiences dancing.
Their success also took them across Europe, with performances in Spain, Germany, Denmark, Greece and beyond.
More than 30 years after their formation, The Persuaders remain an important part of Colin's musical story, continuing with selected performances and existing engagements.
Memphis – Following in the Footsteps of Elvis
For Colin, the music of Elvis Presley has always been more than an influence. It has been a lifelong passion.
Since 2001, his musical journey has regularly taken him to Memphis, Tennessee, the city forever associated with the King of Rock ’n’ Roll.
Colin has performed at numerous events during Elvis Week, entertaining international audiences and building lasting friendships with fellow musicians and Elvis enthusiasts.
His performances have included appearances close to Graceland and at well-known Memphis venues, including Marlowe's.
One of his most cherished traditions is his annual Elvis Week Pool Party, which has become a familiar occasion for fans visiting Memphis.
In 2027, Colin will celebrate the 20th anniversary of hosting this event, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Elvis Presley's passing.
Celebrating Elvis Presley and Billy Fury
Two artists have played a particularly important role in Colin's musical career: Elvis Presley and Billy Fury.
His admiration for both performers led to the development of A Tale of Two Kings, a theatre production celebrating their music and enduring influence.
Featuring memorable songs, engaging storytelling and authentic live entertainment, the show pays tribute to two remarkable voices who helped define a generation.
Colin's association with Billy Fury's musical legacy stretches back to his earliest band performances, including appearances at long-established Billy Fury commemorative events.
His dedication to preserving this music has remained a central feature of his career.
Colin Paul – The Solo Entertainer
Alongside his work with The Persuaders, Colin has enjoyed an extensive solo career, performing throughout Britain and internationally.
His solo performances allow him to explore a wider selection of musical styles while maintaining the rock ’n’ roll sound that has always been at the heart of his work.
From classic 1950s rock ’n’ roll and rockabilly to the unforgettable hits of the 1960s, Colin's shows bring together nostalgia, musical variety and an engaging stage presence.
His Voices of the Sixties show celebrates another remarkable period in popular music, taking audiences on a journey through the songs and memories of the decade.
Today, Colin continues to perform solo shows at clubs, theatres, festivals and special events, alongside selected appearances with The Persuaders.
More Than Rock ’n’ Roll – Recording and Country Music
Colin's musical interests extend beyond the classic rock ’n’ roll era.
Over the years, he has recorded a substantial collection of albums, including interpretations of Elvis Presley and Billy Fury classics, rockabilly favourites and original material.
Country music has also become an increasingly important part of his recording career.
Working with talented songwriters and musicians, Colin has released original country recordings alongside interpretations of established songs.
His recording projects continue to develop, demonstrating the versatility and musical enthusiasm that have characterised his career.
Still Rockin' After More Than 40 Years
From his first appearance in a Manchester pub to performing in Memphis, Colin's career has been built on a simple principle: a genuine love of music and the enjoyment of sharing it with an audience.
More than four decades later, that enthusiasm remains as strong as ever.
Whether performing the driving rhythms of classic rock ’n’ roll, celebrating the timeless music of Elvis and Billy Fury, or revisiting the unforgettable sounds of the 1960s, Colin continues to entertain audiences at home and abroad.
The music, the memories and the rock ’n’ roll live on.
